Keystone natives, Wisdom in Chains had a daunting task in following up the much loved Class War but pressure notwithstanding they managed to put together a 20 track juggernaut that may rival if not surpass previous albums. Lyrically the album encapsulates a variety of life’s labors from the hardships of the daily grind to the more personal and sentimental. The album has its surprises with the slower more guitar heavy “Perfect Day” to “The Death of Whiskey Fingers” which intro nodes to Southern rock before erupting into straight up hardcore then teetering between the two musical styles. One thing that can be said about Wisdom In Chains, they’re not a breakdown driven band. On the album there are quite a few songs with melodious breakdowns, the above mentioned tracks as well as “I Go On” and “Splinter” but that said there are also plenty of pit-friendly tracks “SxE Dad”, “Chasing the Dragon” and “Everything You Know” to name some. And unlike any hardcore, metal, punk album it finishes with the soothing sounds of the ocean, complete with soft poem to wind down too after all that hardcore. The album doesn’t disappoint, musically diverse, lyrically deep and speaking to the ‘working-man’ this album surely will be if not already is a staple in homes, cars and ipods.
